Letter to The Embassy of the United States
2017-10-23 11:00

October 21, 2017
The Honorable Mr. David Lindwall
Chargé d"affaires of the United States of America
The Embassy of the United States of America
Dag Hammarskjölds väg 31
115 89, Stockholm

Dear Honourable Chargé d"affaires,
We are addressing you in regards of the recent and tragic events that have unfolded in and around the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq. The past days the Iraqi army, together with the Iranian backed militia, Hashd al-Shaabi, have made an aggressive attempt to occupy the Kurdish controlled areas. Kurdish lives have been lost, Kurdish civilians have been subjected to grave abuse and brave Kurdish Peshmerga have been killed - the very Peshmerga who risked their lives to fight and defeat ISIS.

As you know, Your Excellency, these forces, backed by the Islamic regime in Teheran, are using American weaponry to fight the Kurdish Peshmerga forces. This is in itself a true tragedy as we as Kurds are allies to the United States of America and the American people. We appeal to you, in the most sincere way possible, to help us stop this aggression towards the Kurdish people and to again show how strong the bond is between our two people.

On the 25 of September this year the Kurdish nation in Iraq voted for independence with an overwhelming majority. The Kurdish people made it clear to Baghdad and the world that they wanted independence. Both history and indeed every day that still pass, prove what constant and huge risk it means for the Kurdish people to live under Iraqi rule.

We urge you, our friends, The United States of America, to once again join us in our cause. We need your help more than ever before.

On the behalf of,

-The Kurdish Federation in Sweden
-The Kurdish Coordination Committee for Kurdish Organizations in Sweden
